pharmacological action
1. The effect on the intestinal tract: In experiments on isolated rabbit intestines, anesthetized dog in situ intestines, and chronic intestinal fistulas in dogs, it was observed that Qu Mai decoction had a significant excitatory effect on the intestinal tract. The isolated rabbit intestines mainly showed an increase in tension, while the anesthetized dog in situ intestines and chronic intestinal fistulas in dogs showed an increase in intestinal peristalsis, with little effect on tension. Qu wheat ears have a slightly stronger effect than stem ears. Diphenhydramine and papaverine can antagonize this effect.
2. The impact on cardiovascular system: Qu Mai has a strong inhibitory effect on isolated frog and rabbit hearts, and Qu Mai Sui decoction has a hypotensive effect on anesthetized dogs, which may be caused by cardiac inhibition.

Ancient book records
"Compendium": In ancient times, family governance was difficult, and there was a soup of stone and bamboo flowers; To treat bleeding from the nine orifices, there is Nantianzhu powder, which is used to break through blood and promote orifices.
The Classic of Materia Medica states that Qu Mai and Ku Li can break through blood, lower yin and cold, and facilitate urination through the lower orifices. Therefore, it is recommended to pay attention to those who have difficulty urinating due to severe heat in the small intestine. Cold can dissipate heat, while spicy can disperse nodules, thus it can cure carbuncle and swelling. Remove dampness and heat, therefore clear the eyes and remove haze. Xin Han breaks through blood, causing abortion and subsequent closure of blood. Remove the heat from the kidney and nourish the kidney qi. Those who expel evil from their bladder also release dampness and heat. If the dampness and heat are present in the middle of the body, it becomes cholera without distinguishing between clear and turbid. If the dampness and heat are alleviated, cholera will resolve itself.
