Have you ever had this experience? Having a good night's sleep, but feeling pain and discomfort in the back of the neck and upper back after waking up, obvious soreness, limited neck movement, and inability to rotate freely. In severe cases, it is difficult to even lower and lift the head, and the head is stiff in an abnormal position, causing the head to lean towards the diseased side. Touching the neck muscles with your hands causes pain and stiffness, and feels cramped... This is caused by factors such as incorrect positioning, poor posture, or catching a cold during sleep, which is commonly known as "pillow placement". If you cannot seek medical attention in a timely manner after pillow placement, you can try the following methods to solve the problem on your own!

Rubbing the neck muscles

The commonly known pillow is actually a spasmodic pain that occurs in the sternocleidomastoid muscle located in the neck. It can be massaged from the Yifeng acupoint at the starting point of the sternocleidomastoid muscle to the Qishe acupoint at the stopping point. When massaging, the technique should be gentle, avoiding violent force, not limited to the treatment time, and repeated treatment until the muscle pain is relieved.

Gently press the earlobe back onto the skin on the neck side, and the Yifeng should be at the edge of the earlobe. The Qishe acupoint is located at the bifurcation of the sternum and clavicle where the sternocleidomastoid muscle terminates.
