There is an old traditional Chinese medicine practitioner in our local area who has been practicing medicine for decades and has spent most of his life relieving the pain and illness of his fellow villagers. A while ago, an old lady suffered from excruciating pain in her waist and legs. With the help of her children, she had no choice but to limp and seek medical treatment from an old Chinese medicine practitioner.

The old lady used to work in the fields when she was young, and her legs and feet were often soaked in water. There was wind, cold, and dampness, which blocked the flow of Qi and blood meridians. In addition, as she gets older, her liver and kidneys are also insufficient, making her more susceptible to the invasion of evil energy.
The old lady said that recently she has been feeling more and more sluggish when walking, and her legs and feet cannot be lifted. Recently, she accidentally fell at her doorstep and couldn't get up, but fortunately, her family discovered it in time.
The old Chinese medicine doctor prescribed a prescription, which was the body pain and blood stasis removing soup of the famous Qing Dynasty physician Wang Qingren. The old lady went back to eat it for 7 days, and her legs and feet also followed suit day by day.
Body Pain Zhuyu Tang: 9 grams of peach kernel, 9 grams of safflower, 6 grams of Chuanxiong, 9 grams of Angelica sinensis, 6 grams of Wulingzhi, 6 grams of myrrh, 3 grams of Xiangfu, 9 grams of Chuan Niu Xi, 6 grams of Dilong, 3 grams of Gentiana macrophylla, 3 grams of Qianghuo, and 6 grams of licorice, decocted in water.
This prescription, in Wang Qingren's own words: "Shoulder pain, arm pain, lower back pain, leg pain, or overall body pain, are all called Bi syndrome. Knowing that one is suffering from wind cold, using warm and heat dispersing medicine will not cure it; knowing that there is dampness and heat, using diuretic and fire reducing medicine will be ineffective. Over time, the muscles will become thin... If water encounters wind cold, it will coagulate into ice, and the ice will become wind cold and disperse. Understanding this meaning, how difficult is it to treat Bi syndrome? There are many ancient formulas, such as the ancient formula that is ineffective, using body pain dispelling stasis soup."
Wang Qingren made an analogy here, comparing blood stasis to a piece of ice. How is ice formed? Water condenses when exposed to wind and cold. Wang Qingren once again said that although the wind cold has dissipated, the ice is still there, so the treatment is to dissolve blood stasis and add some medicine to dispel wind and dampness.
The first ingredients used are peach kernel, safflower, Chuanxiong, and Wulingzhi, which promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis.
Taoren and Honghua are inseparable partners, and many traditional Chinese medicine doctors often use these two medicines together when prescribing. The so-called "Hua Sheng Zi Jiang" refers to the upward trend of the medicinal properties of flower like drugs and the downward trend of the medicinal properties of kernel like drugs. In this way, with one increase and one decrease, under two opposite forces, the blockage naturally dissolves.
Chuanxiong is a very lively medicine with a lively personality. It can be described in one sentence as an upward leader, a downward blood sea, and a middle opening and stagnation. And it is also a medicine for qi in the blood, which can clear the stasis in the blood vessels while also promoting qi circulation.
Wulingzhi is the toilet of the Hanhao bird, but this Hanhao bird is not a bird, but a kind of flying squirrel, with a small and cute appearance, somewhat like a squirrel. Since it's not a bird, why is it called the Hanhao Bird? This is related to the ancient understanding that flying squirrels have wings and can sing, which made them feel like birds.
Flying squirrels live on cliffs. It is said that wherever flying squirrels roam, there are usually dendrobium trees around. We know that dendrobium is a precious Chinese medicinal herb, and flying squirrels are very clever. If they want to eat this dendrobium tree, they will attack those "unwelcome" medicinal workers in groups. Until now, there is still a story in the field of traditional Chinese medicine about "flying mice protecting golden hairpins". Flying mice are flying squirrels, and golden hairpins are golden hairpins and dendrobium. Dendrobium officinale is a fairy grass with spiritual energy. It can be imagined that the defecation of this flying squirrel is also not simple, and the sound of spiritual fat and condensed fat is homophonic. Li Shizhen explained this: "The five spiritual fats are like condensed fat and receive the energy of the five elements."
Perhaps some friends still find it difficult to accept that animals and humans are actually different. Animal diets are relatively simple, such as flying squirrels liking to eat chestnuts, walnuts, and sometimes fresh cypress leaves, apricot leaves, elm leaves, and so on.
Wulingzhi is quite effective in promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. It goes through the turbid channel and can excrete stagnant blood.
Next, Angelica sinensis, myrrh, and Xiangfu are used to regulate qi and nourish blood.
After dissolving the blood stasis, fresh qi and blood should also be introduced to nourish the affected area, so Wang Qingren added Angelica sinensis for nourishing blood, myrrh for regulating qi, and Xiangfu here.
Ox knee, guide medicine downwards. There has been a saying in traditional Chinese medicine since ancient times that "if it is not ox knee, it should not exceed the knee". Ox knee can attract blood and medicine to reach the knee, and can also be used as a supplement to the liver and kidneys.
Earthly dragon, unblocking meridians. Earth dragon is an earthworm. How did the name Earth dragon come from? Legend has it that an ancient emperor had herpes on his waist, commonly known as shingles. The imperial physician in the palace was also unable to cure it, and in the end, a folk herbalist earthworm was able to cure it. The emperor was very happy and asked what kind of miraculous medicine he used. Of course, the grass doctor dare not openly say it. If he can't say it, he will be punished, so he came up with an idea and called it the Earth Dragon. After hearing this, the emperor was indeed delighted with his dragon face. The name of the earth dragon spread like this.
Earthworms can drill around in the soil to loosen the soil for plants. The muscles and meridians of the human body are stiff and stagnant like fields that have not been cultivated for a long time. Earthworms use them to loosen the soil and cultivate the land, which opens up the meridians of the body. Only when the meridians are unblocked can Qi and blood flow smoothly.
Going further down, Gentiana macrophylla and Qianghuo can dispel wind and dampness.
Gentiana macrophylla and Qianghuo are both wind medicines, with wind energy surpassing dampness. If there is a puddle of water on the ground, will the wind quickly dry it out?
Finally, mix the herbs with a single licorice.
Body Pain Zhuyu Tang is also used by some doctors to treat lumbar disc herniation. In the eyes of traditional Chinese medicine, lumbar disc herniation can be caused by three reasons: firstly, qi deficiency, such as when the tire runs out of air, it will deflate. At this time, it is necessary to consider using qi tonics to lift it up, like a jack to lift it up; The second is blood stasis, which is more common among sedentary individuals. If a person sits still, it is difficult for qi and blood to circulate, and over time, there may be stasis around the waist; The third reason is that cold and dampness remain in the joints, leading to poor circulation of qi and blood.
The Body Pain Zhuyu Tang has a good effect on the lumbar protrusion caused by the accumulation of blood stasis and wind cold dampness. In addition, friends with a protruding waist should also exercise appropriately. As the old saying goes, they should walk frequently without going to the pharmacy. That's the truth!
