2. Plant morphology
Perennial herbaceous plant densely covered with soft hairs. The rhizome runs horizontally, is thick, thick, with tight internodes, yellow brown in color, and has a unique lunar odor. Leaves basal, with long stalks, densely hairy, ovate heart-shaped, 2-8 cm long and 1.5-6 cm wide, with a short pointed apex and a heart-shaped or slightly auricular base. The edges are sparsely serrated or slightly wavy, with dark green on the top and light green or slightly purplish red on the bottom. The main veins are palmate, with 5-7 veins. The stem is 15-70 centimeters tall, with 1-2 leaves. The stem leaves are similar to the basal leaves and have short stalks. The leaves have 2 bracts, opposite to each other, and are broadly ovate or compound with three leaves. Conical cyme inflorescence is terminal, often in the shape of a corymb, with small flowers. The calyx is curled inward during flowering and is not obvious. After flowering, it unfolds into a hairy shape, with a tubular corolla and a slight protrusion at the base. The apex is 5-lobed, white or purple in color, and there are 3 stamens. The ovary is located below and has longitudinal grooves. Achenes long columnar, with multiple feather like persistent sepals at the top. The flowering period is from April to May, and the fruiting period is from June to July.
3. Origin distribution
Born by streams, sparse forests, or in damp areas of shrubbery. Mainly produced in provinces such as Henan, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, and Yunnan.

Harvest in autumn, remove sediment, and dry in the sun.
5. Characteristics of medicinal herbs
The rhizome is cylindrical, slightly flattened, slightly curved, with few branches. It is 1.5-8 centimeters long and 0.5-2 centimeters in diameter, with a dark brown or grayish brown surface. It has tightly raised segments and pointed root marks, some of which are slightly enlarged at the top and have stem and leaf residues. The texture is solid and not easy to break, and the fracture surface is slightly flat, with yellow brown or grayish brown. Muscle points (vascular bundles) can be seen intermittently arranged in a ring. The root is slender, slightly curved, 3-15 centimeters long, with a diameter of about 0.2 centimeters. It has shallow longitudinal wrinkles and is brittle. Qi is unique, with a slightly bitter and spicy taste.

8. Clinical applications
Take the decoction orally, with a dosage of 3-6 grams, apply an appropriate amount externally, and grind the juice to apply. Used to treat abdominal distension and pain, indigestion, diarrhea and dysentery, rheumatic pain, soreness and weakness in the waist and knees, and insomnia.
9. Pharmacological research
1. Central inhibitory effect: Spider perfume extract or total valerenin in it can be taken by gavage or intraperitoneal injection to reduce the spontaneous activity of mice, prolong the sleep time of pentobarbital sodium in mice, increase the number of sleeping mice, and has synergistic effect with pentobarbital sodium. The water extract also reduces the number of writhing reactions caused by acetic acid in mice and weakens the vertical tail reaction caused by morphine; Prolonging the latency time of convulsions induced by tetrandrine toxin in mice and combating convulsions induced by thiosemicarbazide. 2. Anti tumor effect: The compounds in spider's fragrance have cytotoxic effects on hepatocellular carcinoma in vitro, affecting the ultrastructure of tumor cells.
10. Chemical composition
The roots and rhizomes contain volatile components, mainly alpha pinene, limonene, 1,8-eucalyptin, p-cymosin, borneol acetate, borneol, nerol, olive alcohol, 4-methyl-8-pentyl-1-naphthoic acid, methyl eicosaneate, acetyl valerian triacetate, dihydroisovalerian triaquinone, valerian triacetate, and isovaleryloxy hydroxydihydroisovalerian triacetate.
