2. Plant morphology
Perennial tangled herbaceous vine. The rhizome runs horizontally, is woody, very hard, has a slightly curved cylindrical shape, is branched, has a yellow brown outer skin, and is easy to peel off in patches. Stem left-handed, cylindrical, nearly hairless. Single leaves alternate, with a palmate heart-shaped shape, gradually pointed at the top, heart-shaped at the base, and triangular shallow, medium, or deep fissures of varying sizes at the edges. The top leaves are nearly the entire margin, with a shiny yellow green color on top, hairless or sparsely white soft hairs, especially dense on the veins. Flowers are unisexual, dioecious, with male inflorescences spike like and axillary, often 2-4 flowers clustered at the base, apical flowers often solitary, female inflorescences spike like and flowers often solitary. Capsule with 3 wings. Two seeds per chamber, surrounded by winged membrane material, slightly rectangular in shape, about twice the length and width.
3. Origin distribution
Born on slopes, forest edges, or shrubs at an altitude of 300-2000 meters. Distributed in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia and other places.
4. Harvesting and processing
Excavate in spring and autumn, with autumn being the best. Dig out the roots and rhizomes, remove the aboveground parts, fibrous roots, and outer skin (cork), and dry them in the sun. When crushing and processing, pay attention to protection to avoid allergic reactions.
5. Characteristics of medicinal herbs
Class cylindrical, slightly curved, often branched, 10-15 cm long, 0.3-1.5 cm in diameter. The surface is yellow white or brownish yellow, with irregular longitudinal grooves, dotted root marks, and protruding stem marks on one side. Occasionally, there is a membranous light brown outer skin and fine roots. Hard texture, flat cross-section, white or yellow white, scattered with light brown vascular bundle dots. Mild odor, bitter taste.

This product is commonly used in folk medicine to soak in wine and decoct for the treatment of muscle and bone numbness, rheumatism, and pain; Chuanshanlong injection has shown good short-term efficacy and minimal side effects in treating rheumatoid arthritis; The compound Chuanshan Longguan spirit therapy used by Sichuan Institute of Biology has shown good efficacy in treating coronary heart disease and angina pectoris.
9. Pharmacological research
Has cough suppressant, expectorant, and asthma relieving effects; It can reduce rabbit arterial pressure, slow down heart rate, increase myocardial contractility, increase 24-hour urine output, improve coronary flow, and significantly reduce blood cholesterol levels; Enhance immune function, anti influenza virus effect, etc. Dioscorea nipponica inhibited both cellular immunity and humoral immunity.
