Orange red, with a surface that may have dark or gray shades. The stripes are light orange red. The crystal has a diamond luster and the fracture surface has a resin luster. Realgar is a typical mineral found in low-temperature hydrothermal and volcanic hydrothermal deposits, closely coexisting with orpiment. It is also found in sediments of hot springs and sulfur vents.
