01 Volumetric laxative

02 Lubricating laxative

03 Permeable laxatives
If constipation is not severe and belongs to mild or moderate, osmotic laxatives can be used. These drugs can form a high osmotic state in the intestine, increase the volume of feces, and stimulate gastrointestinal peristalsis, mainly including polyethylene glycol, salt laxatives, magnesium sulfate, etc. Polyethylene glycol is a purely rational drug that is not absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract and does not produce organic acids. It can treat constipation caused by various reasons. After taking magnesium sulfate, a high osmotic salt solution will be formed in the intestine, which will enlarge the contents of the intestinal cavity and enhance intestinal peristalsis, which is helpful for defecation.
04 Stimulating laxatives
If the patient's constipation is severe, stimulant laxatives can be used. These drugs have strong irritants and can relieve constipation symptoms in a short period of time after use. However, due to its strong irritant effect, the use of this medication can cause significant irritation to the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, special attention should be paid to medication to avoid dehydration caused by overdose.
