Thick taste hurts people without knowing, but being able to be gentle and indifferent is my teacher. "- Ming Dynasty's Lian Qijing's" Essentials of Age Cultivation "
I once treated a boy. Before the age of 12, he was brought to the United States by his parents, and his dietary structure learned from the United States. Every morning, he took out cold milk from the fridge to drink, ate bread and high-energy foods, and also ate some raw and cold vegetables. As a result, it led to severe diarrhea, poor gastrointestinal health, and frequent stomach pain.
But there is a characteristic of his illness, as long as he returns to his home country, he will recover immediately. When he went to the United States again, he had to search many places but could not find the cause.
The reason is actually very simple, it is caused by diet. Because he returned to China and restored the Chinese diet, our intestines and stomachs are very matched with this structure, and do not match the European and American diet. He eats American style food, which inevitably leads to problems.
What is the Chinese diet? It's the staple food, Congee and dishes.
In terms of staple food, southerners like rice, while northerners like pasta such as Mantou. Congee is better than Congee, which is made of grains and cereals. Vegetables usually consist of 1-2 types, along with various vitamins and trace elements.
This kind of collocation is suitable for our Chinese stomach. Because the human gastrointestinal system has undergone a long period of genetic and adaptive processes. The spleen and stomach system left to us by our parents has been passed down from generation to generation by our ancestors, and this traditional way of life has been directly brought into our current lives.
So the diet should also conform to this tradition. We also need to eat simple food, just plain tea and rice. Simple means not to eat too many types of food for a meal. If you are worried about malnutrition or cravings, you can divide different foods into each meal.
I suggest that everyone eat no more than three dishes in a meal, two is enough. We know that the gastrointestinal tract is a processing factory, and the simpler the processed goods, the lighter its burden. If there are too many things given to it, it will be troublesome to process.
We'd better not eat food that is too greasy, as it is not easily absorbed by the stomach and intestines.
Some girls have skin problems. Eating Spicy Hot Pot or seafood is easy to attack. This is explained in Western medicine as an allergy caused by heterologous proteins in the body. From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, animals in the deep sea are generally warm in nature. Eating hot food in the stomach can easily trigger internal heat in the body. Once the internal heat comes out, people with sensitive skin will develop acne.
We also need to pay attention to the light taste when eating. Things that are too sweet, too spicy, too salty, or too sour are harmful to the spleen and stomach. Many children like to eat sugar when they are young, and if they don't eat properly, their health will be poor. I have a cousin who has been fond of eating candy since childhood. He has a poor spleen and stomach and has always been very weak and frail.
A salty diet can damage the kidneys. People with strong tastes have higher blood pressure than ordinary people. People with high blood pressure are very likely to increase the burden on their kidneys, so salty substances can easily lead to kidney failure.
Something too bitter can easily damage the spleen and stomach. We all know that many children have a fever, and their parents give them medicines like Huanglian Shangqing Wan to relieve heat, which are very bitter and uncomfortable to drink in the stomach. So after the child drinks these, their face doesn't look good anymore. Starting to lose appetite is like bitter cold damaging the spleen and stomach.
These various flavors, as long as they are too heavy, are definitely not good for the body. So the taste of food should be light, not too heavy. Another very important thing is to eat seasonal food and avoid plants that grow out of season, as they are not good for the body.
We are Earthlings, growing up on Earth. From afar, we look like small parasites on Earth. We need to follow the rules on Earth, which are that different things grow at different times every 12 months. The crops that grow in that season are particularly suitable for us parasites to eat (we humans are actually small insects that parasitize on Earth, known as "worms" in ancient times).
If we eat summer food in winter and winter food in summer, then our little parasite is going against the earth, which is called going against the sky. Acting against the heavens may lead to accidents, not necessarily death, but a series of physical problems.
So we try to eat seasonal fruits and vegetables as much as possible. And these fruits and vegetables are also very cheap. So what traditional Chinese medicine teaches is very cost-effective.
