The Emperor said, "What is the situation when there is blood in the intestines?" Qi Bo said, "If the body is hot, it will die; if the body is cold, it will live." The Emperor said, "What is the situation when there is white foam under the intestines?" Qi Bo said, Chapter 28
So what we need to improve now is the patient's righteous qi, which is called righteous qi in traditional Chinese medicine and immunity in modern medicine. The immune system adjusts it for him, and after adjustment, these lesions naturally shrink. When it comes to treating ulcerative colitis, I also think of treating oral ulcers. We all know that many people think oral ulcers are caused by fire. But during the Republic of China period, there was an old traditional Chinese medicine practitioner who said that there was no actual fire in the mouth, which means there was no real fire in the mouth. In his opinion, it was all cold. In fact, it is not contradictory that there should be no fire in the mouth. Where should these fires be? All are in the dantian, and the vitality is stored in the dantian. It is actually a kind of virtual fire, or a damp fire that returns. After the middle burner is blocked, the fire does not return upwards. Many young people develop acne on their faces, mouth ulcers when they return, tinnitus when they return to their ears, and redness when they return to their eyes. This fire was originally in the middle burner and was going downwards. He had to enter the dantian, but he couldn't go down and the clear sun couldn't rise. This problem arose.
So you can adjust his middle burner spleen and stomach by using Banxia Xiexin Tang, Pingwei San, Jiaosanxian, Chenpi and other medicines that mediate middle burner. In short, after clearing the middle burner, the fire will automatically go down. You don't have to use such cold medicines to regulate his mouth. At this time, the more cold medicines you use, the less the stomach will move, and the more stagnant he will be. We cannot mechanically understand traditional Chinese medicine, we must use the method of circular circulation to understand it. So when we treat oral ulcers, my experience sometimes uses Banxia Xiexin Tang or Gancao Xiexin Tang to treat them, and the mechanism is actually similar. This is pus and blood below the intestine, which is ulcerative colitis. Another issue is spleen and stomach deficiency cold, which is mostly caused by white foam under the intestines.
Zhang Zhongjing's methods are basically using Lizhong Tang or Lizhong Wan as the basic formula for treatment. When Zhongjing was using Lizhong Tang, there was a paragraph that was very worth pondering. He said, 'Although I am extremely frustrated, I will stop on my own after more than ten days of diarrhea. I will use my spleen to nourish the body and eliminate impurities.' This sentence is too accurate. Some patients may have diarrhea even after you give them traditional Chinese medicine and warm up their yang qi. I often encounter such patients in outpatient clinics. Even after you replenish their qi and replenish the qi of their internal organs, they still have symptoms of diarrhea.
When I was practicing medicine for the first few years, a patient told me about it. I didn't quite understand it at the time, but later I gradually figured it out. What is this actually? It is called the "expelling disease reaction", which is what Zhang Zhongjing said about "although it is extremely annoying, it will stop on its own after more than ten days of diarrhea, and the spleen will be strong to remove impurities." When treating this type of patient, Zhang Zhongjing must have encountered such a situation, that is, when he gave him Lizhong Tang to nourish the middle burner spleen and stomach, and his vitality was sufficient, the person still had diarrhea. He said, 'Although it's frustrating, I have diarrhea more than ten times a day.' This means that our patients may not have as much diarrhea as they do, maybe once or twice a day. The patient stops more than ten times a day, but it is called self stopping. After the vitality is sufficient, he slowly stops on his own.
Why do we have diarrhea? He said this is called "using the spleen to nourish the body and eliminate impurities". He explained that after the vitality of the spleen and stomach is sufficient, the old sesame seeds and millet in the stomach are rotten, and the dampness and coldness are discharged. This is what I often tell patients, that is, when you send a cleaner to clean up, he will sweep out a lot of garbage for you. After cleaning, the room is very clean. When you dispose of the garbage outside, you will feel that I didn't send a cleaner. My house was quite clean before, but why is there still so much garbage being disposed of after cleaning? Many people say that my body was fine before taking traditional Chinese medicine, but how did my symptoms worsen after taking it? Then there is diarrhea, some people have a lot of exhaust, some people have neck pain, and those old illnesses used to go out. What is this actually? After you have enough energy, it helps you adjust your body, and during the adjustment process, some reactions will occur.
