Simiao Yong'an Tang is a traditional Chinese medicine formula that can change the symptoms of blood rheology. The Journal of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (1979; 4:38) observed the blood rheological characteristics of patients with thromboangiitis obliterans of damp heat and blood stasis types before and after treatment using this formula. It was found that patients with higher plasma viscosity, longer red blood cell electrophoresis time, faster erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and blood in a high viscosity and easily aggregated state had higher plasma viscosity than normal individuals. After treatment with our formula, the plasma viscosity of patients with damp heat type decreased and the red blood cell electrophoresis time increased; Before treatment, the blood viscosity of patients with blood stasis type is higher than that of normal individuals, but after treatment, it decreases, and the electrophoresis of red blood cells and platelets becomes faster. In clinical practice, this formula has shown good efficacy in treating thromboangiitis obliterans, phlebitis, lower limb ulcers, sciatica, erythematous limb pain, lower limb deep vein thrombosis, acute mastitis, and herpes zoster.
