Desire should not be indulged, indulgence can lead to disaster. Joy should not be extreme, and extreme joy can cause sorrow. It can be said that one knows how to maintain good health. "- Wan Quan's" Four Essentials of Wan Quan's Health Preservation "from the Ming Dynasty
Wisdom means that a person is very wise, corresponding to the five elements of water, the internal organs of the kidneys, and the four seasons of winter.
Where does wisdom come from? To be wise, one must first be humble and able to accept others' opinions. Being able to accept others' opinions is like 'listening to both sides leads to understanding'. So traditional Chinese medicine believes that 'the kidney opens its orifice in the ear', which is reasonable. If a person has sufficient kidney qi, their ears will be sensitive and easily listen to others' advice. They will not be blindly arrogant and can listen to multiple opinions, naturally possessing wisdom. So the principles summarized by ancient Chinese people are completely related to our daily lives.
So, what is kidney nourishing? Wisdom nourishes the kidneys. A person with sufficient wisdom and kidney qi will have high memory, comprehension, and concentration abilities. On the contrary, people with insufficient kidney qi will experience a decline in intelligence. For example, many teenagers nowadays, at a certain age, suddenly experience a sharp decline in academic performance, which is closely related to their viewing of yellow things and masturbation, leading to kidney deficiency.
People with insufficient kidney qi have many external manifestations that can be diagnosed through observation, such as pale complexion, mental fatigue, wandering vision, small bones, weakness, slow reaction, sluggishness, hesitation, lack of security, acne on the chin, black color, and prolonged non healing.
Such people are inferior to those with abundant kidney qi in terms of mental, physical, and resistance abilities. In terms of diseases, male manifestations include kidney deficiency, decreased sexual function, and lower back pain; Women, on the other hand, suffer from gynecological diseases such as cold feet, fear of cold, susceptibility to colds, sore waist and weak legs, weak urination, incomplete urination, and thin pulse, all of which are manifestations of insufficient kidney qi.
So here, I will first briefly talk about injuring the essence, and there will be a dedicated chapter later to discuss this point. Why is it emphasized so much? Because the problem of sperm injury is very serious now. How did it hurt? Many people suffer from kidney qi damage due to excessive sexual activity.
We all know that 'the kidney governs the bone and generates marrow, and the brain is the sea of marrow'. The kidney governs the bone, with strong bones and agile movements, which is a manifestation of sufficient kidney qi. The kidneys produce marrow. People with sufficient kidney qi have their entire brain filled with marrow, and the spinal cord inside the spine is connected to the brain. If the marrow sea is abundant, then this person is smart and has wisdom. On the contrary, if a person's kidney qi is often leaked, his brain will wither, the essence in his brain will be damaged and consumed, and his brain will not work properly. His memory, understanding, concentration, and thinking ability will decline, resulting in insufficient brain power.
The kidney stores essence, which means that the essence of the five zang organs and six fu organs is stored in the kidney. The kidneys are like a bank of energy in the body, storing all the energy stored in them for emergencies. After getting sick, mobilize energy for use. So insufficient kidney qi can lead to physical decline, and essence deficiency is the fundamental problem.
So people who frequently consume kidney qi will experience several common situations: firstly, fractures. This is directly caused by the withering of bone marrow. I once had a classmate who suffered four fractures in a year, two major fractures and two minor fractures, which were actually caused by excessive indulgence.
The second is a decline in mental ability and memory. Essence is actually the bone marrow of a person. If it is insufficient, mental, intellectual, physical, and immune abilities will all decline.
Many teenagers, tempted by external pornographic information and unable to control their mental state, may engage in behaviors that harm their bodies, including masturbation and premature sexual activity. Once excessive, it can lead to kidney deficiency.
I encounter 20-30 people every week in the outpatient department, and the total number of them can reach hundreds every month. They are all teenagers who suffer from mental and physical decline due to masturbation or premature sexual activity. They were originally energetic teenagers, but in front of me, they presented the pulse of people in their twenties or even forties or fifties. From a medical perspective, this is premature aging, and the problem is very serious. So, as parents, we should take good care of the next generation and not let them be exposed to these negative information.
The third is the frequent occurrence of diseases. To give a simple analogy, the kidney essence and bone marrow of the human body are like the provisions for our defense against the logistics of the army. If all the supplies and salaries are drained, once the enemy invades, the defending army will completely collapse and have no resistance at all. In human body, there are many diseases, which lead to diabetes, stroke, cervical erosion, uterine cancer and other diseases. So, there is a saying in traditional Chinese medicine called "chronic illness and kidney", which means that diseases should be treated early, as prolonged treatment can affect the kidneys. Conversely, when kidney qi is deficient, it will inevitably lead to various problems.
The fourth point is that people with kidney qi deficiency often feel restless, emotionally unstable, and under great pressure. Some people may say that this is a problem of mentality and personality, and what is the relationship with kidney qi? As we mentioned earlier, people with sufficient kidney qi are more likely to accept others' opinions and are not stubborn.
When we look at people like this in life, their external behavior is often very humble. On the contrary, what about people with insufficient kidney qi? Often in a state of restlessness and anxiety, and feeling particularly stressed. Traditional Chinese medicine says' fear of damaging the kidneys'. In modern terms, fear means a lack of security. People with kidney qi deficiency cannot find peace in their hearts and live in worry and fear.
Regularly reflecting on a positive mindset, promoting qi and blood balance, and aiding in health preservation
In 2002, shortly after entering clinical practice, I encountered a patient with typical symptoms of 'fear of kidney injury'. The illness he came to see me for was insomnia, stubborn insomnia. I gave him sour jujube seed soup, Jiaotai pills, and other traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions, and basically tried them all, but they were of no use.
In 2008, when I saw him again, he told me that his illness had already recovered. I asked him, 'How did you recover from your illness?' He replied, 'I spent three years in prison, and I recovered in the second week after I was in prison.' I replied, 'How could this happen?' He replied, 'When I told you that I was always upset and under a lot of pressure, it was actually evasive. The most important thing about me was having financial problems, and I was particularly scared and anxious.' He is a bureau level leader who went to prison because of financial issues.
We all know that there are many types of stress. The first type is when the workload is particularly heavy and cannot be completed; The second type is when others have particularly high expectations of you, but you are afraid that you won't be able to complete the task. For example, students taking the college entrance examination now face a lot of pressure before the exam; What is the third level of pressure? After doing something wrong, I am afraid of being discovered by others. The pressure he mentioned to me at that time was actually the third type. He was greedy for a lot of money and anxious all day long. Of course, he was suffering from insomnia, which could not be cured with any medicine.
As a result, after being caught in prison, he slept particularly soundly the second week. Why? Completely grounded! All the things I had been worried about all along happened, and my heart suddenly relaxed. The pressure disappeared and the fear disappeared. If the cause is gone, the body will naturally recover. It can be seen that as long as a person's mentality is good, their body will automatically recover and there is no need to adjust.
We all know that when a child does something wrong and doesn't tell their parents, you will find that the child is not fidgeting. Call him over and ask what went wrong today? He stuttered and said, 'I broke a glass today without telling my dad.' After he finished speaking, you gave him some education, and he returned to a lively state after leaving the house, no longer under pressure.
In fact, our hearts are like those of children, we cannot let things go. Once there is something that we cannot get over, and there is something shameful in our hearts, it is very agonizing. Especially for crimes like this, the suffering is even more severe, causing significant physical damage.
This patient actually cured themselves. He said, 'After I was caught, my heart was completely released.' Because he had been sentenced to three years in prison, everything he had worried about before had happened, and my heart felt relieved. This anger subsided, and my kidney qi was sufficient. With the combination of water and fire, I naturally fell asleep.
So, his problem cannot be solved by using Jiaotai Pill to nourish water and fire, Sour Jujube Seed Soup to nourish the heart, yin and calm the mind, Tianma Gouteng Drink to calm the liver fire, nourish the liver and kidneys, etc. But once the mentality is adjusted, the qi will be adjusted, and once the qi is adjusted, the illness will heal on its own. It's that simple.
We know that the source of wisdom is humility. A very important sign of humility is reflection. Only by reflecting on oneself can great wisdom be born. Admitting one's shortcomings and mistakes is the beginning of reflection. The ancients said, 'All evil and debauchery come first, and filial piety comes first.'. "All evils lead to immorality" is not only about virtue. If a person commits immorality physically, there will be some excessive and harmful behaviors, which will lead to a variety of consequences, including diabetes, stroke, as well as some teenagers who are suffering from sperm damage. There will be a lot of mental and physical decline and premature aging.
The principle of 'filial piety first' is the beginning of reflection. Firstly, one should be filial to their parents and comply with their wishes. Only then can one gradually reflect on their most fundamental mistakes. As long as one reflects, their qi begins to decline, which is called qi sinking into the dantian. When one's qi sinks into the dantian, their kidney qi gradually becomes sufficient. Therefore, health preservation should start with filial piety to their parents.
