Yang Qi nourishes the spirit when it is refined, and nourishes the tendons when it is soft. "-" Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon, Su Wen, Qi Sheng Tong Tian Lun Chapter 3 "
The older a person gets, the more their muscles shrink. After the muscles shrink, their bones become harder and their spirits become weaker. The consumption of yang energy is increasing, is there any way to rejuvenate? The Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon has hidden these words in the text. So, here I will explain it to everyone, hoping to help everyone and make every audience member feel rejuvenated. The methods to rejuvenate are actually two words, one is peace and the other is tranquility. So, what this sentence means is quietness. Once quietness is achieved, the yang energy will be sufficient, which will nourish both the mind and muscles. This is very interesting. One is metaphysical, one is physical, one is spiritual, and one is material, all of which are provided for. Once a person's psychological state is calm, the gods are also sufficient, which is called "nourishing the gods with essence"; Once a person's mental state becomes calm, it is called 'softness nourishes tendons', and these tendons are also nourished. Don't underestimate this. Once this tendon is nourished, the blood will be sufficient. Once the blood is sufficient, the person will look young, have a good complexion, and have energy all over their body. With a strong body and sufficient yang energy, will this person still be listless? I won't know. In the language of the common people, he has once again become "crooked". This person used to be 'unable to lift someone up', but after the yang energy came, he became 'unstable' again, which means that this person's spirit has returned and vitality has been restored.
So, in the outpatient department, whenever I see middle-aged people with insufficient yang energy and a gloomy face all day long, who have no interest in anything, I usually teach them some methods of exercising, and this is the first one. Mainly using the Eight Section Brocade, it is also accompanied by some movements such as stretching muscles and pulling bones, such as twisting hands forward and then "pulling inside and swinging outside", which are taught to them through muscle and bone exercises. Simultaneously prescribe some traditional Chinese medicine, which is used to nourish the essence and blood, as well as to calm the mind. It is very important to pay attention to this calming effect. If you do not use calming medicine, after replenishing the essence and nourishing the blood, you will not be able to save it in the "bank", as both qi and blood have been replenished. So once you use some calming and astringent drugs, such as lilies, schisandra, etc., to help sleep and improve sleep quality, you will find that the person's mental state and overall qi will be very strong. That is to say, by providing him with nourishing essence, replenishing blood, nourishing blood, and calming the nerves, these three things come together. After taking them, these middle-aged sub-health patients will find that firstly, their sleep is better, secondly, their complexion is better, thirdly, their mental state is better, and fourthly, their overall condition is better. Their skin is brighter than before, their hair is darker, their teeth are stronger, and their whole body is full of vitality, just like restoring their youthful state. This method is called "continuing the innate state" or "returning to the innate state", which is a Taoist term. On the other hand, from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, it is to restore him to the state of abundant and vigorous vitality and energy in his youth, and to replenish his body's qi and blood, as if it is the so-called "rejuvenation".
So, these methods are all hidden in the Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon, teaching everyone how to rejuvenate. That's why I asked everyone in the clinic, firstly, to exercise, stretch muscles and remove bones, secondly, to cooperate with some traditional Chinese medicine assistance, "three parts treatment and seven parts nourishment", and thirdly, our doctors can help patients recover. The third point is to advocate that such patients should sleep more and have sufficient sleep, sleeping at least eight hours a day. For some patients who are particularly weak, I want them to sleep ten hours a day. For some people, I taught them some methods of sitting still or standing on a stake, so that they could "nourish their spirit with precision, and nourish their tendons with softness", and restore the state of peace and tranquility as described in this passage of the Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon. Set aside a certain amount of time every day to practice "peace" and "tranquility" specifically for mental and spiritual well-being. Pay attention to this advanced method of health preservation, which is very advanced.
Like our late master of Chinese studies and literature, Qian Mu, who lived to the age of 96 and had a very long life in that era. He had a good habit of sitting quietly every day since the age of 20, which was a very good way to restore his body's energy and spirit. So, this is the third point. I will teach patients some methods of meditation. Everyone's physical condition is different, some people are suitable for meditation, while others are suitable for sitting with their hands on their knees in a chair. Some people are suitable for standing at a stake, in a state where both the brain and body are relaxed and resting. In short, it is enough to reach a state where both the brain and body are relaxed and resting. Everyone's physical condition is different, so sometimes it is necessary to provide guidance on how to enter a state of relaxation and rest for both the brain and body. Once this is achieved, practice diligently every day and maintain this state while walking, sitting, and lying down. As mentioned in the previous "Ancient Innocence Theory": "Tranquil emptiness, true qi comes from it." Gradually, the body and mind begin to transform, and the vitality begins to recover. The essence, qi, and spirit gradually become enriched and vigorous, becoming "yang qi, essence nourishing the spirit, and softness nourishing the muscles." It returns to the state of a baby, with soft muscles and bones, full of energy, strong body, optimistic attitude, and seems to be interested in everything. This is through the original text of the Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon, which restores our body and mind to the state of abundant vitality and vigorous qi and blood during adolescence. The Tao Te Ching calls it "returning to infancy" and restoring a healthy body. Isn't this a bit like "returning to old age and youth"?
